As we ring out the old year and welcome the new, this week's plant is a great one for those of us who are trapped indoors by winter weather. Lucky gardeners in more tropical areas can add the begonia to their gardens, but it is just as happy as a container plant brightening our dark winter days indoors. Situate your plant in bright, indirect light and moist soil, but let the soil dry between waterings. A nitrogen-heavy fertilizer will encourage leafy growth and larger plants. Most benefit from a yearly repotting into a larger container.
